Tape + Balloons Boredom Buster

This tape and balloon game...I don't know what it's called, nor do I have any idea of what to name it, should I be in charge of naming it...was super simple to set up and the kids went completely crazy for it.

We played this on a day when it was a little bit chilly out and the kids didn't want to spend the whole day outside.  It's a great activity for when they have energy to burn but are stuck inside!

Mine played this game with balloons for some time.  They smashed balloons at the tape to see which ones would stick.  They would they toss other balloons at those balloons in a sort of balloon-survivor game to see which ones they could knock off.

Tape and Balloon Game | Indoor Boredom Buster

This was super simple to set up and it kept the kids busy and active for a long time.

Materials Needed

  • balloons
  • wall-safe tape, like masking tape or painter's tape

Note: We got our painter's tape from the dollar store.  It worked decently well, but not great.  We discovered that packing tape was MUCH stickier.  Because we set this up on a door frame that is already old and grungy, we added the packing tape to our game.  Packing tape, however, can strip paint, so don't use it on good walls - or use it at your own discretion.

How to Set Up Your Balloon Game

  1. Find a door frame where the kids have lots of room to bounce around and bop balloons.
  2. Run your wall-safe tape across the door frame.  Stick the ends of each strand on either side of the door frame.
  3. To make your tape more secure, run a strip of tape or two down each side of the door frame, to keep the other strips in place.  (See the picture below for a visual of this.)
  4. Blow up some balloons and give them to the kids.
  5. Have them bop the balloons towards the tape and see which ones stick.  They can bop more balloons at those balloons and see which ones stay and which ones fall.
