Crochet Blue Bird Hat

This cute crochet blue bird hat is a quick and easy make, and would make a perfect baby gift, birthday gift, or just-because gift. You can easily whip one of these up in an hour - or make a whole flock of blue birds!

You can also easily swap out the blue for another color and make a chick, a cardinal, etc.

Sizes included in this pattern: newborn to child size.

Difficulty: this makes a great beginner hat.

Below you'll find instructions for making this cute little blue bird for kids from newborn to child size (up to about 7-10 years old, depending on head size).

These hats are all made with my basic crochet hat pattern.

Materials

This materials list is standard for all sizes of hats.

1 ball of worsted weight yarn in blue, or any other bird color you'd like (I used Caron Simply Soft because it makes a super soft and cuddly hat)

scraps of yarn in white, black, and orange
5.5 mm crochet hook
yarn needle for sewing pieces onto the hat

*NOTE: finishing the hat is the same for each size. Instructions are included here and at the very bottom of this past.

Finishing the Blue Bird Hat

Sew eyes and beak in place on the front of the hat.

For the hair:

Weave the ends of the yarn into the chain.
Fold each chain in half.
Attach each chain by it's middle to the top of the hat (so that you have the ends of each chain sticking up like strands of hair).
