Simple Adult Crochet Beanie
I love these simple crochet hats because you can whip one up in about an hour.
I've made these for women and men. They make great last minute gifts, or you can make one for yourself in every colour of the rainbow.
This hat works best with light worsted weight yarn.

Finished size: 19 inch circumference; 8.5 inch height
Materials
- light worsted weight yarn (Caron Simply Soft is my absolute favourite) in 1 or 2 colours
- 5.5 mm crochet hook
- 6.0 mm crochet hook
Gauge
15 sc and 18 rows makes a 4 inch x 4 inch square.
Hat Pattern
With 5.5 mm hook...
Magic ring, 12 DC in magic ring, join to first DC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (24 DC)
Round 3: *2 DC in first stitch, DC in next stitch* repeat around, join, chain 2 (36 DC)
Round 4: *2 DC in first stitch, DC in next 2 stitches* repeat around, join, chain 2 (48 DC)
Round 5: *2 DC in first stitch, DC in next 3 stitches* repeat around, join, chain 2 (60 DC)
Round 6: *2 DC in first stitch, DC in next 11 stitches* repeat around, join, chain 2 (65 DC)
Round 7: *2 DC in first stitch, DC in next 12 stitches* repeat around, join, chain 2 (70 DC)
Round 8-16: DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (70 DC)
Switch to 6.0 mm crochet hook...
Round 17-22: SC in each stitch around (70 SC)
Fasten off.
To make this in a men's size...
Just change Round 8 from DC around to an increase round: *2 DC in first stitch, DC in next 13 stitches* repeat around, join, chain 2 (75 DC)
This will give you a slightly bigger hat. You'll finish the rest of the hat in the same way, but you'll have 75 DC and SC instead of 70.
To make a two-toned hat, use 2 complementary colours.
Work rounds 1-12 in colour A.
Work round 13 in colour B.
Work round 14 in colour A.
Work round 15-21 in colour B.
