Plants vs Zombies Craft
My kids decided to try out this plats vs zombies craft the other day using their popsicle stick catapults and plants and zombies that they created with markers and card stock. It was mostly their idea and it was honestly kind of brilliant.
How we did it:
- I cut out rectangles in various sizes from card stock.
- They drew their plants and zombies on the cards.
- We made all the plants and zombies stand up by adding a little cardboard rectangle at the bottom, perpendicular to the plant or zombie.
- They used their popsicle stick catapults to knock the bad guys down.
How to Make a Plants vs Zombies Game During Kid Craft Time
This craft/STEM activity was a combination of simple and time consuming, which honestly was amazing for occupying the kids. It was easy enough the they didn't get frustrated, and it kept them busy for a long time.
I think their favourite part was coming up with all the different plants, etc. and all the different bad guys to defeat. We had various kinds of pea shooters, walnuts, and tons of different zombies and bad guys.
Materials
- card stock
- scissors
- markers
- popsicle stick catapult
- pom poms or other objects to launch
How to Make Your Plants vs Zombies Game
- Cut out various size rectangles from card stock.
- Cut out small rectangles to make the stands.
- Have the kids draw their plants and zombies on all the different pieces of card stock.
- To make the plants and zombies stand up, cut a slit at the bottom of the plant or zombie card, and a slit at the top of a small rectangle of card stock. Slide the small rectangle into the slit of the big rectangle, so that your 2 rectangles are perpendicular.
- Line up your good guys and your bad guys. Give your good guys catapults and launch pom poms (or other objects) at your bad guys.
So my kids literally spent hours and hours on this craft - which was amazing for me, because it kept them busy, focused, and not fighting with each other!
I was also really impressed with how much learning this involved. The wrote the names of all the different kinds of plants on their plants, etc. Which means that they were practicing writing and spelling.
They came up with some creative plants and zombies that are not in the original game, which was super cool to see. I think one twin's favourite was the giant "10 pea shooter" that he made on a super-sized piece of card stock. We even got it to stand up! So that one towered above everyone else.
Once they had finished making all their plants and zombies, we lined up the good guys and the bad guys, and launched pom poms with the catapults we had made the day before.
Overall, this was a huge kid win!
Rebecca is a chaplain at a girls’ school, a mom to boys, and a crafter of all things. She crochets in every free moment she has, and she spends much of her time gluing cotton balls to toilet paper rolls and mopping up glitter.
This is such a cute idea! Can’t wait to try it with my little.
Thanks, Tiff. This honestly kept my kids busy for HOURS.
