Ninja Crochet Hat Pattern
This ninja hat is made with my basic kids crochet hat pattern, and some extra ninja pieces.
The kids loved these so much that they requested THREE ninja hats each.
So now I have a red ninja, a blue ninja, a gold ninja, and 3 "custom" ninjas.
(My kids love "custom" stuff. Custom = go to Mommy's yarn shelf, pick out all your favourite colours, and request something more or less outrageous. That's how we got our neon sparkle ninja.)

Most of our ninja hats were made with heavy worsted weight yarn.

Materials
- heavy worsted weight yarn (Loops and Threads' Impeccable Yarn is a nice weight and it works up into a really soft, but sturdy, hat)
You will need yarn in 3 colours: Colour A (main hat colour), colour B (the mask), colour C (the helmet piece).
You only need scraps of yarn in colours B and C.
- 6.0 mm crochet hook for base hat
- 5.5 mm crochet hook for ninja pieces
- buttons for the eyes
- scrap of black yarn for the eyebrows
Hat Pattern
With 6.0 mm hook and colour A...
Magic ring, 12 DC in magic ring, join to first DC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (24 DC)
Round 3: *2 DC in first stitch, DC in next stitch* repeat around, join, chain 2 (36 DC)
Round 4: *2 DC in first stitch, DC in next 2 stitches* repeat around, join, chain 2 (48 DC)
Round 5: *2 DC in first stitch, DC in next 11 stitches* repeat around, join, chain 2 (52 DC)
Round 6-15: DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (52 DC)
Round 16: SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off (52 SC)
*switch to 5.5 mm hook for all of the following ninja hat pieces
Mask
In colour B...
Chain 24, SC in 2nd chain from hook, SC in each chain to end (23 SC)
Row 2-11: SC in each SC across (23 SC)
In colour A...
Attach yarn at one corner of mask, SC in each stitch around 3 sides.
Fasten off.
Chain 24, SC in 2nd chain from hook, SC in next 3, HDC in next 3, DC in next 3, TRC in next 3, DC in next 3, HDC in next 3, SC in next 4.
Fasten off.
Sew onto bottom of mask.
Helmet Piece
In colour C...
For shorter helmet piece:
Chain 10, SC in 2nd chain from hook, SC, HDC, DC in next 3, HDC, SC in next 2
Turn. Working on other side of chain: SC in next 2, HDC, DC in next 3, HDC, SC in next 2, fasten off.
For longer helmet piece:
Chain 29, SC in 2nd chain from hook, SC in next 5, HDC in next 3, DC in next 3, TRC in next 4, DC in next 3, HDC in next 3, SC in next 6
Turn. Working on other side of chain: SC in next 12, HDC in next 4, SC in next 12, fasten off.
Block into shape and sew pieces together.
Once all of your pieces are finished - the hat, the mask, and the helmet piece - you can sew all the pieces together into a ninja.
Add buttons for the eyes. I used some white buttons that fit snugly in bigger black buttons. And don't forget to sew on the eyebrows with scraps of black yarn.
Finished! Ninja hat. Hooray!
