Kids Colorblock Knit Scarf
I made this kids colorblock scarf for a friend for Christmas. One of my kids' friends, actually, and a friend who's really into Paw Patrol. (This scarf was made in Everest's colours.)
I loved making this scarf because it was super simple, and quick to knit. Knit on fairly large needles, it works up in no time at all. And the faux-basketweave stitch gives the scarf a nice texture.

Kids Colorblock Knit Scarf
Grab a pair of needles and some yarn, and knit this scarf in an afternoon. Then maybe make a whole bunch more for all the kids in your life.
Finished size: 6 inches wide by 42-48 inches long
Gauge is not crucial for this project.
Materials
- 5.5 mm knitting needles
- worsted weight yarn in 3 or more colors
I used Loops and Threads' Impeccable yarn.
Since this is a colorblock pattern, you need 3 different colors, but you'll only use about 1/3 of each ball. So 3 balls could make you 3 scarves.
I also made a colorblock scarf in 4 colors, and made my faux-basketweave pattern a little bit longer. This resulted in 7 blocks of color: 3 colors repeated twice, and one color in only one block, in the middle.
You can play around with how many rows you make each faux-basketweave section. My 3-color colorblock scarf repeated rows in chunks of 6. My 4-color colorblock scarf repeated rows in chunks of 9.
This pattern is really flexible. Basically, all you need to do is alternate your chunks of *K6, P6* and *P6, K6* to make the size of faux-basketweave squares that you want. And then repeat your color blocks until your scarf is the right size.
Instructions
Cast on 30 stitches.
Row 1: knit 6, purl 6, repeat until end
Row 2: purl 6, knit 6, repeat until end
Rows 3-6: Repeat rows 1-2
Row 7: purl 6, knit 6, repeat until end
Row 8: knit 6, purl 6, repeat until end
Rows 9-12: Repeat rows 7-8
Repeat Rows 1-6 and 7-12 until scarf measures about 42 inches.
Cast off.
For color-blocking:
I knit 6 rows of faux-basketweave in each color, and then repeated the whole pattern again, so that I had two big blocks of each color in my scarf.
This meant that I repeated rows 1-6 and 7-12 three times for each color.
Instructions for 4-Color Colorblock Scarf (Slightly longer, with a longer faux-basketweave pattern)
Cast on 30 stitches.
Row 1: knit 6, purl 6, repeat until end
Row 2: purl 6, knit 6, repeat until end
Rows 3-8: repeat rows 1-2
Row 9: purl 6, knit 6, repeat until end
Row 10: knit 6, purl 6, repeat until end
Rows 11-16: repeat rows 10-11
Repeat Rows 1-8 and 9-16 until scarf measures about 48 inches.
Cast off.
For color-blocking:
I knit 4 rows of faux-basketweave in each color (Which means that I repeated rows 1-8 and 9-16 twice in each color). I ended up with 7 chunks of color in total, giving me 2 chunks of black, white, and grey, and 1 chunk of red right in the middle.
