Felt Sheep Finger Puppets
My kids love these felt sheep finger puppets. Any crafts that double as toys are definitely a hit around our house.
This is a great craft to do with slightly older kids. We made these sheep with felt and a glue gun. Once the kids are old enough to use hot glue, or with adult help on the gluing stage, they can make a whole pile of these.
If you are making this craft for your kids, you can also use embroidery thread and sew the sheep together, instead of gluing it.
How to Make Felt Sheep Finger Puppets
- Cut two sheep body pieces from felt.
- Cut two sheep head pieces from contrasting felt.
- Cut four small rectangles for legs from contrasting felt.
- Cut two triangle pieces for ears from contrasting felt.
- Use embroidery thread to sew on the sheep's eyes.
- Glue the two head pieces together.
- Glue two rectangles together for each leg. (This makes the legs more sturdy than having just one piece of felt.)
- Glue the ears onto the body. Remember to reverse the position of the ear on the back of the sheep. (One ear goes near the front of the body, and one near the back. That way, when you glue the two body pieces together, the ears will end up on the same side.)
- Place the legs and the head in between the two body pieces.
- Glue the body together. DO NO glue the underside of the body together, between the sheep's front and back legs. This opening is where the sheep will fit onto your finger.
The Embroidery Version
I also made a few of these sheep by sewing with embroidery thread around the edges (instead of using hot glue), and sewing the individual parts together.
Rebecca is a chaplain at a girls’ school, a mom to boys, and a crafter of all things. She crochets in every free moment she has, and she spends much of her time gluing cotton balls to toilet paper rolls and mopping up glitter.
