DIY Pine Cone Bird Feeders
These DIY pine cone bird feeders are super simple to make and take only about 2 minutes of your time.
We made a handful of these one night and hung them out on our tree. Funny thing: the next day, one pine cone bird feeder was completely gone! I blame the squirrels.
We used a bird seed that attracts the birds that we see around here often (including cardinals - I love cardinals!). So the birds and the squirrels will have to fight it out. (Haha.)
How to Make a DIY Pine Cone Bird Feeder
This is super simple and a great activity for the kids - even the littlest of littles. It does get messy if you let your kids do it, though!
Materials
- pine cones
- bird seed
- peanut butter (allergy alert: obviously don't do this if you're allergic to peanut butter - sunflower butter is a perfectly good alternative)
- string to hang the bird feeder (we used jute twine)
- spoon
How to Make a Pine Cone Bird Feeder
- Lay out some parchment paper or newsprint on your table, so that you don't have a giant bird-seed-and-peanut-butter mess to clean up.
- Pour out some bird seed.
- Coat your pine cone in peanut butter (we spread the peanut butter on the pine cone with a spoon).
- Roll your peanut-butter-pine cone in bird seed.
- Tie a length of string around the pine cone and tie a loop at the other end.
- Hang from a tree.
Tada! Super simple DIY pine cone bird feeder. Just watch out for the squirrels. Those thieves.
