Crochet Minecraft Ghast
I made this Minecraft ghast for my kids' birthday this year, since they are both really into Minecraft. The crochet pattern is fairly simple to follow, provided you are okay with stranded colorwork - though it is quite time consuming. (So many squares and rectangles!)
I also made a crochet Minecraft creeper and some TNT blocks, so that my kids could play Minecraft in real life. Well...they already do play Minecraft in real life. It's adorable! But now they have the stuffies to supplement the imaginative play.
How to Make a Crochet Minecraft Ghast
As I mentioned, this pattern is fairly simple but it is quite time consuming. The reason: you need to make about a million squares and rectangles!
Well...maybe not a million. More like 51. That's still a lot.
Making the ghast in a bunch of separate squares and rectangles gives it more of a 'boxy' or 'blocky' shape, which of course makes it look more like an actual Minecraft ghast.
Here's how to crochet your own ghast:
Materials
- 2 balls Bernat Super Value yarn in any white or off-white color (or another yarn that is a similar weight and yardage)
- scraps of yarn in black, red, and grey
- 4.5 mm crochet hook
- yarn needle
Gauge for this project is not important.
Ghast Body (Make 6 squares total)
Bottom of Body (Make 1)
Work completely in white.
Chain 24. Turn, SC in 2nd chain from hook and in every remaining chain (23 SC).
Chain 1, turn, SC across (23 SC).
Work a total of 23 rows.
Fasten off.
2 Sides and Back (Make 3 total)
Work in white, with some stitches in grey. Scatter a few grey “pixels” throughout your square, but make the majority of stitches white.
Chain 24. Turn, SC in 2nd chain from hook and in every remaining chain (23 SC).
Chain 1, turn, SC across (23 SC).
Work a total of 23 rows.
Fasten off.
Face (Make 1)
Chain 24. Turn, SC in 2nd chain from hook and in every remaining chain (23 SC).
Work a total of 23 rows following the pattern below.
Each square = 1 SC.
Top of Head (Make 1)
Chain 24. Turn, SC in 2nd chain from hook and in every remaining chain (23 SC).
Work a total of 23 rows following the pattern below.
Each square = 1 SC.
To finish body:
Hold 2 sides together and SC along the edge, joining the 2 pieces. Repeat with each of the 4 sides of the body. Do the same with the top and bottom of the head: hold the edge of the square beside the edge of another body square and SC along the edge to form a cube.
Stuff with polyester filling before SC-ing the final edge closed.
Note: you want your SC “seams” to be on the outside of the ghast. This gives it a more “blocky” shape, making it more like an actual Minecraft ghast.
Ghast Legs (Make 9 total)
For each leg:
(Make 4)
Chain 5. Turn, SC in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across (4 SC).
Chain 1, turn, SC across (4 SC).
Work straight for a total of 21 rows.
Fasten off.

Chain 5. Turn, SC in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across (4 SC).
Chain 1, turn, SC across (4 SC).
Work straight for a total of 4 rows.
Fasten off.
To finish legs:
Hold 2 sides together and SC along the edge, joining the 2 pieces. Repeat with each of the 4 sides of the leg, until you have a rectangular prism.
Repeat the same process to attach the small square to the bottom of the leg.
Finishing the ghast:
Stuff each leg (lightly) with polyester filling.
Sew the legs onto the bottom of the ghast in 3 rows of 3.
