Cheerios and Pipe Cleaner Bird Feeder
This is the super simplest DIY bird feeder that you can make with the kids in about 5 minutes.
We made a few of these and hung them on the tree outside our front window. Within about the first hour, one of them was completely empty - I blame the squirrels!
The kids love this bird feeder craft because it's simple. Plus, one of my twins loves sorting things. And counting things. And putting things in order.
Our cats love this craft because they can sit by the window and watch the birds - or the squirrels.
How to Make Bird Feeders with Cheerios and Pipe Cleaners
These are absolutely the easiest DIY bird feeders to make, and they are great for little hands (hello, preschool craft!). They're also great to hang outside in the winter when the birds can't find as much bird seed elsewhere.
Materials
- pipe cleaners
- cereal (Cheerios or something else you can string onto a pipe cleaner)
- string to hang your bird feeder (we used jute twine)
Instructions
These DIY bird feeders are unbelievable easy to make. That makes them a great toddler, preschool, and little kid activity.
- String your cereal onto your pipe cleaner.
- Wind the pipe cleaner ends together so that you have a circle shape.
- Optional: bend your pipe cleaner into a heart shape.
- Tie some string through your cereal bird feeder.
- Hang your bird feeder on a tree.
This takes literally about 5 minutes. Super simple for the kids to do.
We also did this once with a friend who kept eating the Cheerios! So we had an eating bowl and a crafting bowl. Craft and snack in one - score!
